“Please come down.” There are two instances where this phrase is used that show some great significance.
When Nehemiah was building the wall of Jerusalem, his enemies wanted him to stop as the completion of his work would bring glory to God. His response in Nehemiah 6:3 was clear, “I’m doing a great work; I can’t come down.”
Nehemiah was active in his authority role and building the wall to glorify God. He knew his identity and would not subside.
In a similar way, when Jesus was on the cross, He reclaimed authority over the world after the enemy claimed it in the garden when sin was first introduced. Jesus took back authority and He gave that authority to us.
Jesus hung on the cross so that we could be above the world’s authority. Remember – it is only the world that wants to bring us down!
All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
Matthew 28:17-20
See this as a reminder of the authority each of us carries because of what Jesus did on the cross.
Continue steadfast in the work He has given us while proclaiming “I’m doing a great work; I can’t come down.”
