Have you ever heard of the Matthew Principle?
For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have an abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away.
Matthew 25:29
At first glance, this verse can seem confusing – almost unfair. It might even sound out of character for a loving and compassionate God. Why would He take away from someone who already has so little?
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
John 10:10
This verse helps to shift the understanding. The enemy wants to steal something precious: God’s Word.
In today’s world, it’s easy to replace time in Scripture with podcasts, devotionals, or online teachings. While these tools can be helpful, nothing can truly replace the living, breathing Word of God.
The real question is: Do we still have a deep hunger for His Word? That hunger is at the heart of the Matthew Principle.
Those who earnestly seek God, who crave His truth and presence, will be filled.
They will receive more understanding, more intimacy, more spiritual abundance.
But those who lose that hunger, who become distracted or indifferent, will slowly drift away. What little spiritual spark they had may eventually fade.
You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
Jeremiah 29:13
God wants us to abide in Him so that He can abide in us! (Read John 15:4-11)
