The topic of the fear of the Lord seems very strange. Does it mean you are afraid of God? Not even close!
In Hebrews, the phrase “fear of the Lord” is described in the word “yirah” which means to worship God.
My son, if you receive my words, and treasure my commands within you; So that you incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; Yes, if you cry out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding, If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.
Proverbs 2:1-5 NKJV
We read as though God is speaking to us through Solomon.
Proverbs teach us that there are a few steps to understanding the fear (worship) of the Lord.
1. Receive the Word of God
2. Incline your ear to wisdom
3. Apply your heart to understanding
4. Cry out for discernment
5. Lift up your voice to understand
6. Seek wisdom like treasures
Worshipping God will result in God revealing Himself to you more and more, which will enhance your knowledge and wisdom of Him and in Him.
